Whitelier Hanam: A Modern and Minimalist Bakery

Designing a White Workshop of Premium Bread

The design team behind Whitelier Hanam aimed to express the artisanship of the bakery both on the exterior and interior of the space. The white facade, stretching across the entire width of the property, catches the eye and piques curiosity. Its curvature resembles the softness of the white bread, creating a visual connection between the design and the product. The facade was pre-fabricated with metal works and powder-coated in paint at the factory, then assembled on-site. The wood structure works for bread display were carefully built on-site to showcase the articulation of the structure.

Inside the bakery, a three-meter wall separates the hall and the kitchen. Despite the height difference between the exposed ceiling and the wall, the space feels open and unconstrained. A beige-colored tile counter wraps around from the facade to the interior, warmly welcoming customers to the display of white bread and jams. The main focal point of the hall is the articulated wood structure display shelves, elevated on the separated wall. These shelves emphasize and exhibit the form and beauty of the bread, creating an engaging and visually appealing experience for customers.

The design of Whitelier Hanam posed several challenges due to the limited space of 54 square meters. The hall and the bakery kitchen required efficient use of space to accommodate both production and display. The design team successfully overcame this challenge by carefully planning the layout and ensuring optimal functionality.

Whitelier Hanam is a testament to the meticulous research and attention to detail that went into its creation. 3D computational programs were utilized to model the sophisticated and articulated curvature of the facade, while the wood structure display shelves were carefully designed to highlight the size and importance of the white bread.

Completed in September 2021, Whitelier Hanam stands as a stunning example of modern bakery design. Its sleek and minimalist aesthetic, combined with its emphasis on craftsmanship and premium products, perfectly aligns with the brand's identity. This design has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category, further solidifying its status as a well-designed and innovative creation.
